what graduation means to me

hubby.
thanks for doing the dishes 10 million times.
and for the back massages
and "you can do it"smooches
chocolate & flowers
when it's near midnight
and I had 5 pages to go on a paper
and was almost in tears and almost asleep.
mom & dad.
thanks for sharing what success really is
being obedient to God('s will)
for teaching me to work hard
and go for my passion

with my darling & talented & super fun sis
((more pics of the grad day "outfit" mon))
^ fun, huh? a smooch on the cheek from my mom from all my graduations ^

I'm not interested in accruing crowns on this earth, but in obeying God.
Somewhere along the line, God planted a little seed in my mind about helping others live out their full potential through counseling. "Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, "This is the way; walk in it" (Isaiah 30:21). He'd already imprinted me with DNA that inclined in that direction. As I studied Child Psychology at the University of Minnesota, He empowered me with knowledge. The seed grew to a desire to bring faith-based principles integrated with evidence-based therapeutic techniques to others... bringing Jesus to others, sometimes with words and sometimes without.

Graduating from that program, the Lord led me to the University of St. Thomas-St. Catherine University Master of Social Work program. I learned a lot of clinical skills and came to realize my own therapeutic inclinations through practicing them at my internships. This weekend, I graduated from the program. On top of that, God so faithfully lined me up with an amazing job; I couldn't have dreamed up a better opportunity.

As I reflect on where He's led me, it's clear that my own hand in it has been quite small. It's only by His blessing and strength that I've been able to accomplish any of this at all, because it's the Lord who gives and takes away (Job 1:21). I am confident of this. Like Moses said in Exodus 33:15, I ain't goin nowhere without Your Presence, God. Thanks for bringing me this far. I'm excited to see where we go from here!

How wonderful for you that your god has "blessed" you with a loving family, husband, education, and career. I wonder what those who are starving, unloved, homeless, without their health, or otherwise suffering have done to not receive the same blessings as you. I wonder what they did to deserve for their prayers to remain unanswered by your god. You must be much better than those people in every facet for your prayers to be answered while theirs are left unheard.

I started following your blog after seeing you on weardrobe.com. And while I enjoy your sense of style and seeing the outfits you put together, I was not aware I'd be in for a large dose of ignorant Jesus-lovin' talk along with every post.

I don't mean any of this in a malicious way, nor do I wish to rain on your graduation parade. I just can't understand the thought process that leads people to believe in "God", and this is one of those questions that I've always wanted to ask believers but never had the guts to. That is, until I read this post and became sufficiently pissed off enough to comment.

Congratulations! Isn't it amazing what can happen when we follow God's plan instead of our own.

Thanks for all the congrats, everyone! You got me feelin pretty darn warm and fuzzy, I tell ya.

And Miss Hillary. Just a few thoughts in response to your comment. I certainly can't pretend to understand how/why some people's lives seem ridden with struggles and others are much less so. I know that my God is one who cares more than anyone for the weary, burdened, and broken in our world. And I also know that God can provide a genuine peace and joy that cuts through whatever negative circumstances we might be facing. I'd love to hear you out more if you like. Just shoot me an email over here: herzog.lindsey@gmail.com

Congratulation on your graduation. =) I enjoy reading your path with God and how everything comes together just like its meant to be. I'm in my 1st year of Law studies and I struggle because mostly I hinder myself. But I know that God wants me to do so and He knows what my future will look like. I can't really tell what exactly it was, but something in your post touched me. =) With Gods help everything is possible.

oh and by the way, your dress looks really lovely =)

God bless,
